2024 Calverton Chargers Season Recap
Our Calverton Chargers completed their 2024 season strong with a 3-2 record! We had over 100 swimmers on the team this year. 38 Chargers swam the divisional swim meet and two individuals and two relay teams are going to the All-Star meet! In addition, four of our swimmers were invited to the Coaches Invitational Long Course, as one of the the top 8 fastest swimmers in a stroke in Montgomery County Swim League.
The Chargers had over 15 coaches in training. These are swimmers on the team who received student service learning (SSL) hours to assist the pre-team kids with their swimming skills. We had 11 pre-team swimmers and welcomed 19 new members, including 10 first-year families onto our swim team.
Swim team is more than practice and meets. You might have seen or heard some of our social activities. In addition to pep rallies before swim meets, we had an international potluck night, pasta dinner, bowling day, movie outing and a biathlon that ended with a yummy pancake breakfast. These events were a great way for the team and families to get to know each other outside of the pool.
We had four Chargers graduating this year: Jason Flick, Samantha Morin, John Nguyen and Melissa Tran. We wish them all the best in the future, will miss them dearly, and appreciate all the years they swam as Chargers!
We want to thank our amazing coaches, Coach Tom Donley, Coach Hannah Skwarek and Coach Courtney Albright for a successful year. Also a HUGE shout out to our previous and current board members and representatives: Whitney Kelly, Stephanie Lee, Jim Bice, Becca Holden, Leigh Tinsley, and Joyce McKenzie. Lastly, we couldn’t have made this year a success without our numerous parent volunteers.
We will be sending out information about our swim team, social and fundraising events during the off-season. Please consider joining the team next season!
